How should I prepare this?

Cut open the Pongal or Khichdi pack.
Transfer the contents to a bowl.
Add hot water, stir well, cover for a minute and enjoy.

How should I store this?

Store the unopened pack in a cool, dry place. No refrigeration needed.
If unused powder remains, transfer it to an airtight container.
Once prepared, consume immediately.

How is this different from other instant meals?

The Pongal or Khichdi is cooked the traditional way, then gently freeze-dried to remove moisture while retaining 100% of the flavour and up to 95% of the nutrition. Unlike other instant meals that rely heavily on preservatives, Chutnefy stays shelf-stable as a light, dry powder. Add hot water to the Pongal or Khichdi, and it comes alive again, tasting just as fresh as the day it was made.

Do I need to temper it after mixing?

No, tempering isn’t required.
The meal is already fully cooked and seasoned for balanced flavour. However, if you enjoy a fresh tadka, you’re welcome to add one. It’s completely optional.

This meal does not contain

Added preservatives, artificial colours or flavours, thickeners or fillers.
Just real ingredients, cooked traditionally and preserved thoughtfully.

Palak Dal Khichdi

The Backstory

Khichdi is one of India’s oldest and most enduring dishes. A nourishing yet humble pairing of rice and lentils that appears in ancient Sanskrit texts as khiccā, praised for its ease of digestion. Long before it became comfort food, khichdi was sustenance: cooked in temple kitchens, eaten during fasting days, and served in homes as a satisfying, frugal meal. Today, khichdi remains what it has always been: grounding, complete, and deeply reassuring. A dish that you turn to in moments of hunger, healing, and pause.
.....

Masala Dal Khichdi, a North Indian-style expression, gently spiced with warming tempering and finished with ghee is comforting, hearty, and quietly indulgent.

Palak Khichdi, a Maharashtrian-inspired variation where rice and lentils are cooked down with spinach, onions, tomatoes, and aromatic spices in ghee. With a texture that sits between pulao and porridge, it’s wholesome, nourishing, and quietly flavourful comfort with depth.
