How should I prepare this?

Cut open the Pongal or Khichdi pack.
Transfer the contents to a bowl.
Add hot water, stir well, cover for a minute and enjoy.

How should I store this?

Store the unopened pack in a cool, dry place. No refrigeration needed.
If unused powder remains, transfer it to an airtight container.
Once prepared, consume immediately.

How is this different from other instant meals?

The Pongal or Khichdi is cooked the traditional way, then gently freeze-dried to remove moisture while retaining 100% of the flavour and up to 95% of the nutrition. Unlike other instant meals that rely heavily on preservatives, Chutnefy stays shelf-stable as a light, dry powder. Add hot water to the Pongal or Khichdi, and it comes alive again, tasting just as fresh as the day it was made.

Do I need to temper it after mixing?

No, tempering isn’t required.
The meal is already fully cooked and seasoned for balanced flavour. However, if you enjoy a fresh tadka, you’re welcome to add one. It’s completely optional.

This meal does not contain

Added preservatives, artificial colours or flavours, thickeners or fillers.
Just real ingredients, cooked traditionally and preserved thoughtfully.

Tomato Pongal [with Coconut Chutney & Sambar]

The Backstory

In Tamil homes, the harvest festival and the dish that shares its name are inseparable. Pongal, both the celebration and the food, comes from the Tamil word that means “to boil over,” a symbolic gesture of abundance, gratitude, and prosperity. .....

Long before the festival took shape, the dish itself is believed to have marked the first harvest, with freshly gathered rice cooked until it overflowed the pot. Ghee Pongal, or Ven Pongal, became its savoury expression: slow-cooked rice and lentils enriched with ghee, black pepper, and cumin, made to be shared among family and neighbours as the season’s first offering. Over time, kitchens added their own touches, including Tomato Pongal. More than a festive meal, Pongal is a reminder of the land’s generosity and the joy of eating simple and nourishing meals together.
